The Afghan government has offered the Taliban a share in power so long as the rising violence in the country comes to a halt, Al Jazeera reported on Thursday, citing a government source.

The Taliban have taken Ghazni city in southeastern Afghanistan, the 10th provincial capital to fall in a week, the interior ministry confirmed. The city is just 150 kilometers (95 miles) from the capital Kabul.

The Taliban could isolate Afghanistan's capital Kabul in 30 days and potentially take it over in 90 days, a U.S. defense official told Reuters on Wednesday, citing a U.S. intelligence assessment.
