It's one of the biggest ironies of this year's NBA free agency market – Dennis Schroder joined the Boston Celtics on a one-year, $5.9-million contract. His request for a $100 million+ deal is still fresh in people's minds. So are his rejections of the two-year, $33.4-million and four-year, $84-million contract extension offers from the Los Angeles Lakers.

In fact, Schroder is not alone in betting on himself and then failing in contract negotiations with teams. Other players have gone down the same path, and an unwise decision cost each of them tens of millions of dollars.
