In southwest China's Yunnan Province, Kunming Zoo is home to nine Asian elephants, one of the largest Asian elephant herds in China. When the days turn warm, the elephants cover their skin with mud to keep cool. Then the keepers at the zoo trim up the elephants' feet regularly to shape their nails and clean their cuticles. The regular pedicure treatment aims to evaluate the elephants' foot health and make sure no rocks or other debris get stuck in the grooves of their feet, the keepers said.
