An increasing number of children in the U.S. have tested positive for COVID-19 as cases have steadily climbed since the beginning of July after a decline in early summer.

The American Academy of Pediatrics has released its latest report on child COVID-19 cases. About 94,000 child COVID-19 cases were reported between July 29 and August 5, taking up 15 percent of the total weekly reported cases in the U.S.

Since July 22, the total number of child COVID-19 cases increased by four percent over the two weeks. Child COVID-19 cases in U.S. have been fluctuating dramatically as the number declined to 8,447 cases by the end of June, the lowest in over a year.

However, the latest weekly cases increased about 11 times compared to that in the end of the June.

Fortunately, it appears uncommon that children get severe COVID symptoms. The academy called for more data to be collected on the long-term impacts of the pandemic on children, such as physical, emotional and mental health effects.

As of August 5, about 4.3 million children in the U.S. have tested positive for COVID-19 since the virus broke out.
