21 killed as torrential rains hit township in C China

Twenty-one people were killed, and four are unaccounted for after torrential rains hit a township in central China's Hubei Province on Wednesday and Thursday.

More than 8,000 residents have been affected in Liulin Town, Suixian County by the downpours which also damaged more than 2,700 houses and caused power cuts, local authorities said.

The township saw total precipitation reaching 503 millimeters from 9:00 p.m. Wednesday to 9:00 a.m. Thursday, causing an average waterlogging depth of 3.5 meters, they said.

Disaster relief and rescue efforts are underway.
