As many places in the northern hemisphere battle unprecedented wildfires, another natural disaster – flooding – is making itself heard in this year's rain season.
The death toll from northern Turkey's recent flood had risen to 27 by Friday, according to the Associated Press. The disaster has also caused five bridges to collapse and over 1,700 people to evacuate.

In India, thousands of stranded residents were rescued on Thursday from flooded villages along the Ganges after the river rose above its danger level in the country's most populous state – Uttar Pradesh. Reports say more than 600 villages in the state were cut off by the rising waters, prompting a major rescue effort by authorities.

Central China's Hubei Province was also hit hard by flooding. The local government of Suizhou City said in a statement on Friday that a preliminary investigation shows that 21 people have died and four are still missing in the flooding triggered by torrential rains from Wednesday.

Japan on Friday issued the most serious level 5 risk alerts in the western prefecture of Hiroshima, citing unprecedented rains in the region and imminent risk of floods and other disasters.

In west Africa, residents of several neighborhoods in Cameroon's commercial capital Douala woke up to waist-deep flood water on Thursday after torrential rains battered the city for over 24 hours.
On Wednesday, authorities in Niger said floods in the capital Niamey had killed five people. Since the start of the rainy season, 52 people have been killed and hundreds displaced across the country by floods, they said.
