A joint attack drill with the full firepower was held by some 10,000 Chinese and Russian soldiers on Friday morning in northwestern China against international terrorists.

A key part of the joint exercise, code-named ZAPAD-INTERACTION-2021, involves troops like army aviation, artilleries, armored assault, airborne troops, and specials forces.

The drill involves more than 20 military operations, including breaking down barriers, fire strikes and taking strongholds.

They were conducted under joint command with both militaries having had greater tacit understanding among each other.

For the exercise on Friday, more than 80 percent of the weapons are newly equipped to the participating troops. These include new field air defense systems and state-of-the-art fighter jets, like J-20.

Before the drill, the deputy commander of the China-Russia Joint Command, Mikhail Nosulev, spoke exclusively to CGTN about how the two militaries better coordinate to unite against common global threats.

He said that the Chinese and Russian militaries have achieved a new and higher level in coordinated combat through this joint exercise.

"We train together, plan together and deliver crushing blows to imaginary enemy targets together. And Russian troops have gained valuable experience through using Chinese weapons. This is very important," Nosulev said.

"During the live fire drill, I was in Chinese heavy equipment and used it to lock down and eliminate the target. I can see that Chinese weaponry is very reliable," he said.

He said that both militaries showed their professional quality and firm resolve in combating against international terrorism and their ties set a positive example of solidarity and cooperation.

"The exercise has proven this fact," Nosulev said.
