The International Memorial Day for Comfort Women is observed every year on August 14. South Korea first introduced the day in 2013 to remember the victims of sex crimes committed by the Japanese army during World War Two. Up to 200,000 girls were forced into sexual slavery from 1932 to 1945. The victims were mainly from east and southeast Asia, including countries and regions like China, the Korean Peninsula, the Philippines, and Malaysia.
