Rescue works are underway for the miners trapped in a coal mine in Gangcha County of Haibei Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, Qinghai Province, northwest China, August 14, 2021. /CMG

One miner died, and 19 others were trapped underground in a mud collapse incident inside a coal mine in Gangcha County of Haibei Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, northwest China's Qinghai Province, on Saturday.

A total of 21 miners were working underground when the accident happened, according to the provincial emergency management department.

Two miners were pulled out of the mine, but one died, and the other survived and has no life-threatening condition.

The local firefighter department has dispatched 120 firefighters and 32 vehicles to the site for rescue operations.

The Ministry of Emergency Management has sent a team led by Huang Yuzhi, the vice minister and leader of the National Mine Safety Administration, to guide rescue efforts.
