Bostankol Village in Lop County was among the 3,666 impoverished villages in the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region. With a poverty rate of 24 percent, it fell under the deep poverty category in China. Moreover, it's located at the edge of the Taklamakan Desert, where residents suffer from frequent sandstorms. Under these harsh circumstances, Secretary Jia began poverty alleviation work.
