Inter Milan, the defending champions of Serie A, have announced the signing of Edin Dzeko from Roma and Denzel Dumfries from PSV.

Dzeko on Saturday played for the Nerazzurri and scored a goal in the 3-0 friendly win over Dynamo Kiev.

Having built a reputation as an efficient scorer in Bundesliga's VfL Wolfsburg between 2007 and 2011, Dzeko moved to Manchester City where he scored 72 goals in 189 games over five seasons.

The Bosnian shooter was sent to Roma on loan in 2015 and spent the following six seasons with the Italian capital team. He scored 119 goals for Roma in 260 appearances but had a falling out with then-Roma manager Paulo Fonseca, which became part of the reason behind Dzeko's departure.

Inter brought the 35-year-old veteran to Stadio Giuseppe Meazza to fill in the offensive vacuum left by Romelu Lukaku. Despite Lukaku's 64 goals in 95 games and his remarkable contributions to Inter winning the first domestic title in 11 years, the club had to sell him for £97 million ($135 million), which will be used to balance their financial sheet.

Dumfries was considered a possible replacement for Achraf Hakimi who left for Paris Saint-Germain. Dumfries scored two goals for the Netherlands in the UEFA European Championship that ended in July.

One of the reasons Roma agreed to let Dzeko go was that they reached agreement with Chelsea over the transfer of Tammy Abraham. According to Sky Sports, Abraham's transfer price is £34 million (about $47.1 million).

Though the 23-year-old striker was not the favorite choice of Thomas Tuchel, who took over from Frank Lampard as Chelsea's manager last season, the English club added a €80 million (about $94.4 million) buyback option to the deal. It can be triggered in the summer of 2023.

Roma's manager is Jose Mourinho who led Inter to win the UEFA Champions League title in 2010.
