UN: Afghanistan's civilian casualties to reach record high in 2021
00:36

The United Nations (UN) worries Afghanistan is facing a humanitarian catastrophe. Almost 400,000 civilians have been displaced so far on 2021. More than half of those were uprooted in the past two months, while 80 percent are women and children.

Afghanistan is on course to see its highest ever number of civilian casualties in a single year. Over 1,000 people have been killed or injured from attacks, especially in Helmand, Kandahar and Herat provinces. With thousands fleeing the violence, the UN is calling on Afghanistan's neighbors to keep their borders open.
