The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) has been present in Afghanistan since the late 1980s to protect and assist those in need in Taliban-controlled areas for years and has open channels with local and high-level leaders. In a recent statement, the organization said the country is facing an increasing level of humanitarian need. Robert Mardini, director general of the ICRC, talks about the situation on the ground.
