Yang Chen, former striker of the Chinese national football team and Bundesliga's Eintracht Frankfurt, joined the Bundesliga Legends Network, announced Germany's top football league on Thursday.
"As the first Chinese player to play and score in the Bundesliga, Chen Yang (Yang Chen) was a trailblazer, being crowned Chinese Player of the Year during his time at Eintracht Frankfurt. Yang later represented FC St Pauli, totaling more than 100 Bundesliga and Bundesliga 2 appearances for the two clubs," said Bundesliga in a statement.
Yang's best highlight in Frankfurt happened in the 1998/99 season in which he scored eight goals for the club. The last one happened in the last game against 1. FC Kaiserslautern. Before that game, Frankfurt were not in the best position to stay in the top league. They needed a big win over Kaiserslautern which were a top five team of the league.

Yang scored the first goal for Frankfurt and delivered an assist later, making key contributions for the club which avoided relegation. It's one of the all-time greatest performances by a Chinese player in a top European football league.
There were another five players who joined the Legends Network together with Yang: Philipp Lahm, Jürgen Klinsmann, Claudio Pizarro, Zé Roberto, Makoto Hasebe.
"The Bundesliga is renowned globally – it is not just the stars and the number of goals, but the whole atmosphere of German football that sets it apart. I am proud to represent the league as a Bundesliga Legend and look forward to meeting more Bundesliga fans," said Klinsmann.
"When I arrived in Germany, it was obvious straightaway that this league was different. The fan culture, the clubs, these guys live and breathe football! But that is also spreading and you see the same excitement and commitment around the world. It will be great to introduce more football fans to the Bundesliga in the coming years!" added Pizarro.
