Taliban spokesperson Zabihullah Mujahid on Thursday issued a statement on the 102nd anniversary of Afghanistan's independence from British occupation.
The statement, posted on Mujahid's Twitter account, was inscribed the "Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan," a name that the group has used to refer to itself in official communications.
"Declaration of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan on the occasion of the 102nd anniversary of the country's independence from British rule," the spokesperson wrote on Twitter.
The statement said that they are honored to celebrate the independence day at the moment the Taliban have defeated the U.S. and forced them to withdraw from Afghanistan.
Appreciating all the Afghan people for helping the country become independent once again, the Taliban also pledged that they will reconstruct the country under the Islamic system.
