This year marks the 30th anniversary of a landmark inquiry into Aboriginal deaths in custody in Australia. But unfortunately, many believe little progress has been made and the situation has worsened for indigenous Australians three decades later. Data show aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people have shorter life expectancy, but higher rate of child mortality, unemployment and prison incarceration. What causes the situation? What should the Australian government and the international community do to promote and protect the rights of indigenous people? Guests in this edition of Dialogue are Einar Tangen, an independent current affairs commentator; Professor Chen Hong from East China Normal University; and Daryl Guppy, CEO of Guppytraders.com.
