Researchers in Hongya County, southwest China's Sichuan Province, has stumbled upon a western Chinese mountain salamander. An endangered species, it is mainly found in the southwestern provinces of Sichuan, Guizhou and Yunnan.

Infrared cameras in Hongya County have also captured footage of rare wild animals such as serow, tufted deer and red pandas.
