East China provincial official Zhou Jiangyong is being investigated for "suspected serious violations of Party discipline and laws," the country's anti-corruption watchdog said on Saturday.

Zhou is the secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) municipal committee of Hangzhou, capital of Zhejiang Province.

The 54-year-old is also a member of the Standing Committee of the Zhejiang Provincial Committee of the CPC, with his whole career in the province.

The CPC Central Commission for Discipline Inspection and the National Supervisory Commission announced the investigation on its website on Saturday evening, but didn't provide more details.

Zhou chaired a meeting on carbon neutrality with other Hangzhou city officials a day before the announcement, and a report on the meeting was carried on the front page of Hangzhou Daily on Saturday.
