Liverpool made it two wins from two at the start of the new Premier League season as they cruised to a 2-0 home victory over Burnley on Saturday.

Diogo Jota edged Liverpool in front with his second goal in as many games in the 18th minute, a brilliant header in front of a first full Anfield in 17 months.

Burnley, the team who last season ended Liverpool's 68-match unbeaten home league run, a record that stretched back almost four years, had chances to level, but their final ball was lacking at the crucial moment.

Ashley Barnes thought he had leveled early in the second half, only to be denied by the offside flag, with Liverpool capitalizing on their reprieve in the 69th minute, as Sadio Mane drilled home their second.

"I think the performance was good at times," Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson told BT Sport. "There's still places where we can improve of course, but overall we're delighted. The fans are back, it was great to have them back, they gave us a lift. And we got the result in the end, so that's the most important thing."

Jack Grealish scored his first goal for Manchester City as the Premier League champions thrashed Norwich 5-0 on Saturday.

Grealish marked his home debut following his British record £100 million ($136 million) move from Aston Villa with a close-range effort to double City's lead after Tim Krul's own goal opened the floodgates at the Etihad.

Aymeric Laporte, Raheem Sterling and Riyad Mahrez netted in the second half to ensure City bounced back from last weekend's defeat at Tottenham.

Elsewhere, Aston Villa defeated Newcastle United 2-0, Crystal Palace were held by Brentford with a 0-0 draw while Leeds United had a 2-2 tie with Everton.

In Serie A, debutant striker Edin Dzeko was on target as Inter Milan got their title defense off to a flying start, thrashing Genoa 4-0 in their opening match of the season in front of fans in the San Siro on Saturday.

Hakan Calhanoglu, who crossed the divide to sign for Inter from city rivals AC Milan in the summer, took the center stage as he set up Milan Skriniar for his side's sixth-minute opener, before drilling home a second eight minutes later.

The visitors had a great chance to get back in the contest just before the interval, but Yayah Kallon dragged his effort wide from a good position.

That miss proved costly as Inter added a third in the 74th minute through substitute Arturo Vidal to make sure of the three points.

Veteran forward Dzeko, who joined from AS Roma earlier this month, marked his 200th Serie A appearance by heading home a late fourth.

Barcelona coach Ronald Koeman has admitted opposition sides are being bolder against his side now that they can no longer count on Lionel Messi, after the Catalans were held 1-1 away to Athletic Bilbao in La Liga on Saturday.

A thumping late strike from Memphis Depay canceled out Inigo Martinez's header to earn Barca a point but Koeman admitted his team were still keenly feeling the absence of their all-time top scorer and former captain, two weeks after he left Barca for Paris Saint-Germain following 21 years at the club.

"I don't like to keep talking about the same thing but we're talking about the best player in the world and opponents are always more scared when Messi is around," Koeman told reporters.

Borussia Dortmund slumped to a shock 2-1 defeat at Freiburg on Saturday as star striker Erling Haaland drew a rare Bundesliga blank.

It was the first time Dortmund have lost to Freiburg in Germany's top flight for 11 years, with Saturday's setback coming just four days after losing 3-1 to Bayern Munich in the German Super Cup.

"We made stupid mistakes, twice!" grumbled Dortmund center-back Manuel Akanji.

"We gave away a free-kick for the first and the second goal was a counter attack. We can't invite opponents to score, especially when we have Champions League aspirations," he added.

Also in the Bundesliga, Eintracht Frankfurt drew 0-0 with Augsburg on Saturday while Hertha Berlin omitted Matheus Cunha from their match-day squad for their 2-1 home loss to Wolfsburg amid reports the Brazil striker wants to join Atletico Madrid.
