U.S.-born panda cub Xiao Qi Ji turns one

U.S.-born giant panda cub Xiao Qiji (R), whose name means "little miracle," celebrates his first birthday with mother Mei Xiang by eating a fruitsicle cake at the Smithsonian's National Zoo in Washington, D.C., U.S., August 21, 2021. /CFP

The cake is made from frozen diluted grape and apple juice and colored water and decorated with sweet potato, apple, carrot, pear, sugar cane, banana and bamboo. /CFP

To mark the joyous day, Chinese Ambassador to the United States Qin Gang sent birthday wishes to Xiao Qiji in a video and sent a gift to the adorable baby panda. /CFP

Xiao Qiji (L) is so named as his mother is the oldest giant panda to give birth in the United States. /CFP
