"Happy families are all alike," but one such family in Beimen Community, Shangri-La City, Deqen Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, southwest China's Yunnan Province, obviously has their unique characteristics. First off, it's a large family, with over 15 family members from four generations living together. Secondly, the family members are from different ethnic groups. The family's grandfather is Han, the son-in-law is Tibetan, the senior daughter-in-law is Lisu, and the younger daughter-in-law is Naxi. Yet, despite being from different ethnic backgrounds, they live happily together and can accept the customs and traditions of each other.

The younger daughter-in-law told us that it is rather common in Shangri-La to have family members from different ethnic groups. Especially in a town where people develop relationships according to their wills and often with people from other ethnic groups.

Yunnan Province is well-known for having many different ethnic groups. Although Deqen is a Tibetan autonomous prefecture, in addition to Tibetan people, some other ethnic groups live here, too. So there seem to be more chances to meet your loved one from different ethnic backgrounds.
