Foreigners ought to be evacuated by the end of August and there is no room for extending the August 31 deadline of U.S. withdrawal from Afghanistan, Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid told a press conference in Kabul on Tuesday.

This was the second press conference that the Taliban held after their takeover of the Afghan capital.

In the backdrop of chaotic scenes and casualties at Kabul airport as Afghans scrambled to flee the country, Mujahid urged the people at the airport to go home and their security will be guaranteed. He said they were no longer allowing Afghan nationals to go to Kabul airport because of the chaotic situation there.

The Taliban had previously promised "safe passage" to Kabul airport for civilians.

Blaming the U.S. for chaos at the airport, the spokesman said the U.S. kept on inviting people to the airport to board evacuation planes. He urged the U.S. not to encourage Afghans to leave the country. "We need their talent," he added.
