The UK will chair a virtual meeting of the Group of Seven leaders on Tuesday. They will discuss whether to seek an extension to an August 31 deadline for the evacuation of international troops and others seeking to leave Afghanistan as well as whether to recognize or sanction a Taliban government. Meanwhile, although Britain's Defense Secretary says it is unlikely the deadline can be extended, he is optimistic about evacuation progress.
