The Bologna Illustrators Exhibition has started its China tour in Beijing's Yanhuang Art Museum. It showcases 366 works by 74 illustrators from around the world.

They were selected from more than 12,000 entries to the 2020 Bologna Children's Book Fair, an event dedicated to children's publishing.

One of the highlights of the exhibition is Chinese illustrator Wu Peng's work called "A Travel". This is the second time that the 33-year-old's illustrations have been selected by the exhibition.

"My illustration "Cute Island" that depicted my trip to South Korea's Jeju Island was selected for the 2019 edition. And later that year, when I went to Italy to claim the award, I visited Rome, Florence and Bologna. Inspired by local art museums, architecture and even street scenes, I painted "A Travel" which was selected for the 2020 edition," said Wu.

Launched by the Bologna Children's Book Fair in 1967, the Bologna Illustrators Exhibition also introduces the latest trends in illustration.

Since its debut in China in 2016, the event has attracted both artists and enthusiasts from across the country.

Wu said: "I went to the first exhibition in China in 2016. It was quite an eye-opener for me because it gave me the chance to learn from top artists from across the globe - what they use and how they paint. It has inspired me a lot."

Due to the coronavirus pandemic, this edition was not held in Italy and Chinese visitors are very lucky to be the first to see the works.

The event also features a children's area, where they can create their own illustrations.

The exhibition will run until October 10, and will hold a series of lectures and workshops on the sidelines.
