In episode 4 of the BBC documentary "Dynasties," Tait, a painted wolf matriarch leaves a deep impression on viewers, offering more information about this endangered species on the African continent.
Painted wolves, including African wild dogs, painted dogs and African hunting dogs, may be the predators with the most common English names. Although "African wild dog" is the most widely used, "painted wolf" best reflects its unique appearance.
With only about 6,600 painted wolves left in the world, they are Africa's second most endangered carnivore. Their main threats are habitat fragmentation and hunting.
