Australia's NSW new COVID-19 cases soar to over 1,000 for first time

The Australian state of New South Wales (NSW) on Thursday reported a record 1,029 cases of COVID-19 over the past 24 hours as a Delta variant outbreak surged in the capital Sydney.

The case numbers may well continue to go up before we see the trajectory of downward transmission, NSW Chief Health Officer Dr. Kerry Chant said.
