Cameroon forward Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting scored four goals on Wednesday as Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich thrashed fifth-tier minnows Bremer 12-0 in the first round of the German Cup, their biggest win in 24 years.

The original tie was postponed at the start of August after an outbreak of COVID-19 in the Bremer squad, but Bayern showed their hosts little mercy.

Bremer were already 8-0 down when they were reduced to 10 men for the last 13 minutes after defender Ugo Nobile hauled down Bayern replacement midfielder Michael Cuisance, who was through on goal.

England midfielder Jamal Musiala also grabbed two goals as Bayern were already 5-0 up at halftime.

In the English Football League Cup, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang started his season with a hat-trick as Arsenal shook off their Premier League troubles and hit second-tier West Bromwich Albion for six to reach the third round of the League Cup on Wednesday.

Aubameyang, returning to the starting line-up after testing positive for COVID-19 before the season got under way, tapped into an empty net in the 17th minute after Bukayo Saka's saved effort fell to him.

He made it 2-0 on the stroke of halftime, when Nicolas Pepe's shot rebounded off the post for another tap-in, and then repaid the favor seconds later.

The hat-trick was sealed in the 62nd, Saka having bagged the fourth goal of the game in the 50th, with a strike from 18 yards.

"This hopefully can give us something to build our confidence for the next games. We had to work hard and keep pushing," said the Gabonese, whose side lost both their opening league matches 2-0.

Southampton went two goals better, dealing fourth-tier Newport County an 8-0 drubbing at the Rodney Parade ground in the South Coast side's biggest away win of their 136-year history.

Premier League rivals Newcastle United and Burnley failed to provide as much excitement for the 30,000 crowd at St James' Park in Newcastle upon Tyne, that game ending goalless with Burnley winning through 4-3 on penalties.

Meanwhile, Harry Kane announced on Wednesday he will remain at Tottenham this season, ending speculation over his future with Manchester City interested in the England captain.

Kane had made clear his desire to leave his boyhood club in the quest to end his wait for the first trophy of his career.

However, the 28-year-old was warmly welcomed back by Tottenham supporters as he made his first appearance of the season as a substitute in a 1-0 win at Wolves last weekend.

"It was incredible to see the reception from the Spurs fans on Sunday and to read some of the messages of support I've had in the last few weeks," he posted on Twitter.

"I will be staying at Tottenham this summer and will be 100 percent focused on helping the team achieve success."

Kane is Tottenham's second top goal-scorer in history with 221, just 45 off the record held by Jimmy Graves.

He still has three years left to run on a six-year contract signed in 2018 that left Spurs chairman Daniel Levy with the leverage to demand a fee well in excess of the £100 million ($137 million) Premier League record City paid Aston Villa for Jack Grealish earlier this month.

Levy will be hoping keeping hold of Kane can help fire Tottenham back into the Champions League next season after missing out for the past two years.

Spurs have made a bright start under new manager Nuno Espirito Santo, beating City 1-0 without their star striker on the opening weekend of the season before extending their 100 percent start at Molineux stadium in Wolverhampton, England.
