China's Guo Lingling celebrates after winning the Tokyo Paralympics powerlifting women's 41kg final in Tokyo, Japan, August 26, 2021. /CFP

China's Guo Lingling won the gold medal as she set a new world record of 109 kg during the women's 41 kg powerlifting event at Tokyo Paralympics on Thursday. 

The 32-year-old Chinese first broke the previous world record of 107 kg in her third attempt and followed up with a new mark of 109 kg in the fourth. 

Ni Nengah Widiasih of Indonesia took the silver with 99 kg while Clara Sarahy Fuentes Monasterio of Venezuela settled for the bronze with 97 kg.

Guo started powerlifting in 2010 and made her debut at the 2017 Powerlifting World Championships in Mexico City, Mexico. She won the gold medal in women's 45 kg category at the 2018 Asian Para Games in Indonesia.
