Over 5,000 rock paintings have been discovered in Subei County, northwest China's Gansu Province. The paintings vividly record the reproduction and development of nomadic peoples about one thousand years ago.

A large number of little-known mysterious rock paintings are scattered across the vast area of Subei County. Though the carving skills are very simple, they are life traces of the nomadic peoples. Among those 5,000-plus rock paintings, more than 3,000 are relatively clear images.

Riders and camels appear the most in the group rock paintings located 30 kilometers northeast of Shibaocheng Village. Sika deer, big horn sheep, yak are also on the images.

Subei County is located on both sides of the western end of the Hexi Corridor in Gansu Province. It is a border county and the largest autonomous county of ethnic minorities in Gansu. There are glaciers, snowy mountains, rivers, wetlands, grasslands, canyons and other landforms, making up an important area of Qilian Mountain National Park and an important ecological barrier of the Hexi Corridor.
