At least 21 people died after a boat capsized in Bangladesh's Brahmanbaria district, some 109 km east of the capital Dhaka, on Friday night, local official Hayat-ud-Doula Khan confirmed.

The boat was reportedly carrying some 60 passengers when the incident occurred, the official said, adding that the death toll would likely rise.
