Carmakers from around the world have brought their latest new energy vehicles (NEVs) to Chengdu Motor Show 2021 (CDMS 2021), which got underway in southwest China's Chengdu City on Sunday.

Now in the 24th edition, the auto show attracted over 130 renowned auto brands from Germany, the U.S., France, Japan and South Korea, together with joint ventures and self-owned brands. Around 1,600 vehicles are on display in a total exhibition area of 200,000 square meters.

The event will not only boost the domestic auto market, but also guarantee that exhibitors can smoothly execute their strategic plans, according to Gary Liu, managing director of Hannover Milano Fairs Shanghai Ltd., and the organizer of the event.

"Thanks to the stable macro-economy environment, multi-pronged measures stimulating and unleashing demands, and the fully-blooming segmented markets, the auto market in China will make its rebound by the end of 2021," Liu told CGTN.

China's domestic passenger car sales growth rate is expected to reach 10 percent in 2021, with the sales of NEVs exceeding 2 million, a record high or a year-on-year increase of 46 percent, according to China Association of Automobile Manufacturers.

In June this year, the association adjusted the overall sales growth of the domestic auto market to 6.5 percent from the previously projected 4 percent.

The organizer emphasized that despite pandemic-induced impacts, the pace for auto upgrading is actually speeding up. Based on market feedback, the organizer said the cycle for the development of a brand-new model has been shortened from around four years to between one and three years, and for modification, from six to 24 months to between four and 15 months.
