The United States has become the biggest destructive factor in international cooperation in fighting COVID-19 and the biggest obstacle to scientific study on the virus' origins tracing, China said on Monday.
The remark, made by Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Wang Wenbin at a daily presser, came after the newly released U.S. intelligence report on the origins of COVID-19.
"The so-called origins of COVID-19 report issued by the U.S. intelligence agency is an anti-science political report, a blame-shift report under the guise of origins tracing to shirk responsibility for the failure of U.S.' pandemic response and a mendacious report that fabricated an excuse to pour dirty water on China," Wang told reporters on Monday.
"Just like spreading the lie that Iraq possesses weapons of mass destruction, this report is another example of the United States deceiving and misleading the international community," he added.
Hitting out at the U.S.' withdrawal from World Health Organization, vaccine export ban when shots were gravely needed worldwide and hyping the lab-leak theory, Wang said the U.S. has not only failed on its own virus response but also poisoned the atmosphere of international anti-pandemic cooperation and derailed the origins tracing study to go to the wrong direction.
The Chinese spokesperson on Monday again urged the U.S. to stop politicizing origins tracing of COVID-19 and pandemic fighting and return to the "scientific and cooperative" track as soon as possible.
