Live updates: Global COVID-19 cases surpass 225 million

The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases worldwide has surpassed 225 million, with more than 4.6 million deaths, the latest data from Johns Hopkins University shows.

The Chinese mainland recorded 73 new confirmed COVID-19 cases on Tuesday, including 50 cases of local transmission of the virus in southeastern Fujian Province.

British officials on Tuesday recommended that COVID-19 vaccine booster shots be given to all vulnerable people and those aged over 50 six months after their second dose.
