Cotton and textile industry in northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region has shown resilience by further tapping markets and winning over more customers with its superior quality, as platforms, such as the (China) Eurasia Commodity and Trade Online Expo (EACT Expo) 2021, have been promoting economic cooperation and trade exchanges between the region and the world.

Cotton and textile industry is one of the key pillar industries in Xinjiang and the textiles were among the main commodities exported from the region.

The cotton output of Xinjiang, the country's largest growing area for the crop, exceeded 5.16 million tonnes in 2020, accounting for 87.3 percent of China's total.

The region's cotton output would continue to remain stable in 2021, said the regional statistics bureau.

In the production workshop in Xinjiang Fangting Weaving and Knitting Co., Ltd. located in Urumqi, workers were busy packaging a batch of orders from Japan for some 70,000 pieces of underwear.

According to the General Administration of Customs of China, China's textile and garment exports totaled $74.11 billion in the first half of the year, up 40.9 percent year on year.

The (China) Eurasia Commodity and Trade Online Expo 2021 opened Wednesday in Urumqi, capital of Xinjiang. Aimed at building a Silk Road commerce and trade platform for win-win economic cooperation, the online expo attracted 1,323 exhibitors and 1,865 buyers from 25 countries.

The expo has become an important platform for promoting economic cooperation, trade exchange among Asian and European countries since the first commodity expo was held in 2015.
