Alar Karis, the head of the national museum, was elected Estonian president on Tuesday in the second round of voting held in the country's 101-member Parliament (Riigikogu) during a continued extraordinary session.

Karis was the only candidate in the election and was put forward by the ruling Reform and Center coalition.
