The World Health Organization said it has identified a new coronavirus "variant of interest" in its weekly pandemic update Tuesday.  

First identified in Colombia in January 2021, the B.1.621 strain is the fifth COVID-19 strain to be monitored and WHO warned it was becoming increasingly prevalent in Colombia and Ecuador and shows signs of possible resistance to vaccines.
