Chinese Premier Li Keqiang on Friday called on all countries to work together to overcome difficulties and strive to achieve development and green transition at the same time.
Premier Li made the remarks while addressing the opening ceremony of Taiyuan Energy Low Carbon Development Forum 2021 via video link.
In his speech, Li first reiterated China's ambitious goal: reaching a CO2 emissions peak before 2030 and achieving carbon neutrality before 2060. China has paid great importance to high-level development and climate change.
The Chinese premier called on all countries to work closely during the time of the COVID-19 pandemic and push for a "green transformation" by taking advantage of green energy and low-carbon materials.
Countries should make the transformation from the perspectives of energy-consumption and production the best that they can, Li stressed.
He also suggested that countries should stick to the principle of common but differentiated responsibilities. He elaborated that developed countries and developing countries bear different "historical responsibilities" as they have different development goals and abilities.
The Chinese official also called for a strengthening in policy to reach a balanced, green and sustainable recovery after the COVID-19 pandemic.
