New Zealand police shot and killed a violent extremist after he wounded six shoppers with a knife in a supermarket in the Auckland suburb of New Lynn on Friday. Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern described the incident as a terrorist attack and said three of those who had been stabbed were seriously injured. She said the man was a Sri Lankan national who was inspired by ISIS. The attacker, who was not identified, had been a "person of interest" for about five years. Arden said he was killed within 60 seconds of beginning his knife attack.
