Wheelchair basketball player Zhang Xuemei has been named as the Chinese delegation's flag bearer at the closing ceremony of the 2020 Tokyo Paralympic Games, the delegation announced on Sunday.

Zhang was a member of the Chinese women's wheelchair basketball team, which lost to the Netherlands 31-50 in the tournament final on Saturday, at the Tokyo Paralympics. But that still stands as China's best result in any Paralympic Games.

Born in 1993, Zhang was diagnosed with an osteosarcoma at age 17 and later underwent an amputation as part of the treatment. Zhang started training in wheelchair basketball in 2012, and was recruited by the national team three years later. She and her teammates were crowned champions at the 2018 Jakarta Asian Games.

The closing ceremony of the Tokyo Paralympic Games is set for Sunday evening.
