In June, tennis player Naomi Osaka withdrew from the French Open, also citing mental health issues.
With two prominent elite athletes going on the record on the international stage saying they are pulling out of an event for their personal health and well-being, the issue of mental health among the world's elite athletes has become a hot topic in many quarters.
