A groundbreaking ceremony of a vaccine factory to produce China's Sinopharm COVID-19 vaccines in Serbia is being held Thursday in the country's capital city.

Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic attended the ceremony, saying that after finishing the construction, the factory will serve not only Serbia's needs but also other countries. 

In July, Serbia signed a memorandum with China and the United Arab Emirates to build a factory for domestic production of the Sinopharm coronavirus vaccine.

After completing the vaccine factory, Serbia will become the first European country to produce China's COVID-19 vaccine.
