China will continue to help Afghanistan with livelihood projects and aid it with reconstruction, said Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Zhao Lijian on Monday.

China announced last week that it would provide 200 million yuan ($30.96 million) worth of grain, winter supplies, vaccines and other medicines to Afghanistan.

The spokesperson also urged the international community to provide economic and humanitarian assistance to Afghanistan to tide over its difficulties as the war-torn country is facing economic and pandemic-related challenges after the U.S. pullout.

The United States should shoulder its responsibilities and help alleviate Afghanistan's economic difficulties while respecting its sovereign independence, Zhao added.
