Acting Foreign Minister of the interim Afghan government Amir Khan Muttaqi on Tuesday said that Afghanistan wants to have good relations with countries around the world, and called for continuing aid from international organizations to the country.

"We want to have good relations with the world's countries, but want them to not pressure Afghanistan, because pressure does not work and does not benefit Afghanistan or world countries," he said at a press conference.

On the issue of international recognition of the Taliban government, Muttaqi said they were in contact with UN representatives and individual countries.  

"It is known that the people of Afghanistan have been reeling under the brunt of war for 40 years and that's why we hope the international community will lend a helping hand to Afghanistan in various domains," he added.

Foreign aid accounted for 43 percent of the Afghan economy in 2020, according to the World Bank. The country remains among the world's poorest, with a GDP per capita of just $509 the same year.
