The European Union should urge member states to correct their mistakes and stop sending wrong messages on issues involving China's sovereignty and territorial integrity, a spokesperson for the Chinese Mission to the EU said on Thursday.

The spokesperson was responding to a query on Slovenia's Prime Minister Janez Jansa sending a letter to leaders of other member states on September 13, regarding certain actions by China, including "expelling" the Lithuanian ambassador from Beijing.

The spokesperson pointed out that the crux of this matter is the Lithuanian government's violation of the one-China policy and provocations that undermine China's sovereignty and territorial integrity.

"China's response to Lithuania's wrong actions is justified and legitimate," the spokesperson said. "The whole thing is clear. It has nothing to do with the size of the country."

The spokesperson reiterated that the one-China policy is a universally recognized norm in international relations and is the political basis for China's relations with countries and organizations, including the EU and its member states.

China will not threaten anyone, nor will it accept anyone's threat or allow anyone to harm China's core interests at will, the spokesperson added.
