Hong Kong LegCo member Junius Ho on new election rules
01:39

Voting began in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) on September 19 for the 2021 Election Committee's subsector ordinary elections.

This committee will have the power to nominate and elect not only Hong Kong's next chief executive, but also 40 members of the expanded, 90-strong Legislative Council (LegCo).

The election is significant, as it is the first held under Hong Kong's improved electoral system. For some perspective on the new system, CGTN reporter Cen Ziyuan spoke to Junius Ho – a current member of the LegCo. Ho said the new rules are part of a risk management system to safeguard sovereignty, but it doesn't mean the competitiveness will be low.
