Can you get coronaviruses from eating bats? How did SARS CoV-2 jump from bats to humans? Would studying bats help prevent the next big pandemic? Barnaby Lo tries to find the answers to these questions by following a group of "virus hunters" from the Philippines who collect samples from bats from forests like Mount Makiling, an ASEAN heritage park, to look for viruses like COVID-19 that could be deadly to humans. While bat hunting is a restricted activity in the Philippines, Barnaby meets a community that has been hunting and eating bats for generations. Has the pandemic changed the way they view their tradition?
