Chinese President Xi Jinping and Solomon Islands' Prime Minister Manasseh Sogavare on Friday hailed the two-year-old diplomatic relations between the two countries in a phone conversation.

President Xi said facts have proven that the Pacific island country's decision to establish diplomatic relations with China is completely right, since the people of the two countries have enjoyed tangible benefits.

As developing countries, both countries share common interests in safeguarding the international order and promoting fairness and justice, Xi said.

He said China respects Solomon Islands' independent exploration of a development path that suits its national realities, and supports its people's efforts to pursue a better life.

The Chinese side appreciates Solomon Islands' commitment to the one-China policy and is ready to work with it to bring the relationship to a higher level, said Xi.

China is also willing to strengthen party-to-party exchanges with the Solomon Islands, promote the coordination of China's Belt and Road Initiative with the development plan of the Solomon Islands, and deepen pragmatic cooperation in various fields, adding that China welcomes it to expand exports to China through platforms like the China International Import Expo.

China is also ready to provide economic and technical assistance to the country without any political conditions attached, and will share it with experience in poverty reduction, deepen development cooperation, and help it and other Pacific island countries fight COVID-19, deal with natural disasters and better cope with climate change.

Sogavare said the Solomon Islands staunchly follows the one-China policy, agrees with Chinese-proposed principles of independent sovereignty, mutual respect and non-interference in each other's domestic affairs, supports China on issues related to its Taiwan region, Xinjiang and Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, and human rights, and stands behind the building of a community with a shared destiny for mankind.

The Solomon Islands is willing to learn from China's development experience and boost mutually- beneficial cooperation with China in various fields, and elevate its relations with China to a new height, he said.

He expressed his appreciation and gratitude of China for its support and assistance to his country and other countries on tackling the COVID-19 pandemic, and hopes that the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympic Games be a success.
