More than 3,000 thousand butterflies were released in the butterfly garden at the Shanghai Zoo on Saturday ahead of its 9th Butterfly Exhibition. The exhibition, which officially opened on Sunday, invites visitors to learn more about insect biodiversity and will see nearly 70,000 butterflies from about 30 species released at the zoo throughout its duration. All the butterflies released this time are indigenous to China, as the zoo introduces more native species to the public. The exhibition runs through to October 31.
