China said Huawei's Chief Financial Officer Meng Wanzhou's house arrest was political persecution to suppress China's high-tech enterprises.

Foreign Ministry spokesperson Hua Chunying commented on China's commitment to protecting its citizens, saying, "the Communist Party of China and the Chinese government have the firm will and strong ability to resolutely safeguard the legitimate rights and interests of Chinese citizens and Chinese companies."
