The government of Ecuador confirmed on Sunday that it has successfully regained control of a prison that was recently the scene of a deadly riot, and that other jails throughout the country are now under the direct supervision of the police and military. 

The riot, which left 118 people dead, broke out at the Litoral Penitentiary in the southwestern coastal city of Guayaquil on September 28.
